Polly Josephine has been performing jazz, soul and blues for many years. She regularly teams up with pianist Tim Croston to form a stylish duo.
“Ever since I was a teenager I have been captivated by the emotion and depth of the great blues and jazz singers and the euphoria of soul and gospel. Aretha is my heroine and I try to recreate those songs with the same dynamism and excitement for the audience that I feel when I listen to them. I love the smooth jazz tones of Ella Fitzgerald and the sophisticated lyrics of the likes of Cole Porter, the intense atmosphere of Nina Simone and the sheer joy of Etta and Aretha’s soul!”
Tim is a versatile pianist and church organist, who performs classical music as well as jazz. Venues he has played at include: St George’s Hall Liverpool, Preston Guild Hall, BBC Maida Vale, the Old Vic Theatre, the Spitz, the Birmingham Academy, Blenheim Palace and Oxford’s Holywell Music Room and Jacqueline du Pre Music Building. He has a Master’s degree in Physics from Oxford University, and an MA in Composition and Sonic Art from Oxford Brookes. timcroston.co.uk
